There are many useful hobbies you can learn to do either under your own merit or through the use of an outside source. A lot of times people will attend seminars or classes on things that they wish to learn and take up as a hobby, or just to know for good use or future reference. Welding is one of these hobbies.
The nice part about taking up welding is that no matter how young or old you are, you can find a place to learn. Most community colleges actually offer welding classes for the public to take and these classes are pretty inexpensive for the most part. If this is an interest to you, you should go to your local community college, or one nearest to you, and ask for a class schedule that lists all the different classes they offer. After doing so, take a walk around their campus and check out the facilities dedicated to welding and let that help determine if it’s truly something you’re interested in.
If it turns out you want to start taking classes, find out when they class ends for the day and talk to the instructor about joining. More often than not, they are more than willing to discuss with you any questions or concerns you have about the class. If the classes aren’t for you, then you can try learning on your own.
You’ll need access to a welder and some metal, but if you do try teaching yourself how to weld, safely of course. If you don’t have access to a welder, you can go out and buy, borrow or rent one. You’ll need to get your hands on welding rods as well, which are sold according to their intended use and are usually identified by a certain code number.
Finally, you’ll want to find some metal to practice with. Mild steel that is clean unpainted and ungalvanized should be a good start. Make sure you always practice safety by wearing proper equipment and eyewear. As long as you have all that’s listed above, you’re ready to learn how to weld.
